Pru Life UK, Prudence Foundation earmark P7M in calamity fund

Following the devastating effects of typhoon Maring (international code name Trami), British life insurer Pru Life UK, through its charitable arm, the Prudence Foundation, has allocated P7 million in emergency relief funds for identified areas in Metro Manila and the provinces.

The amount may be used to help residents in communities that have been and will be affected during the typhoon season this year. This fund is in addition to the disaster preparedness programs already supported by Pru Life UK and the Prudence Foundation.

Pru Life UK is currently coordinating with Plan International and Save the Children for the provision of hygiene and infant care kits for residents in Bataan and Taguig City.

“We understand the emotional and financial effects of having our homes flooded. Recovery takes some time, and the support of family and friends make a big difference. Through our modest contribution, we aim to help families of affected communities cope in the aftermath of typhoons,” said Pru Life UK President and CEO Antonio de Rosas.

“The Prudence Foundation and Pru Life UK remain steadfast in our commitment to help uplift the Filipino spirit in times of emergency. Through our disaster preparedness programs, we will help ensure that residents of disaster-prone communities will have the skills to survive from natural calamities,” said Prudence Foundation Executive Director David Boyd-Thomas.

Established in Hong Kong, the Prudence Foundation is the umbrella organization that oversees regional corporate social responsibility initiatives of the Prudential group of companies across Asia, including Pru Life UK in the Philippines.

Last April, the Prudence Foundation and Pru Life UK launched a P100-million, three-year program in the Philippines that is expected to directly benefit over 100,000 Filipinos in more than 100 barangays in Metro Manila and in Bulacan, Rizal and south central Mindanao provinces. The funding will cover school-based disaster preparedness and pre-school child care programs across the country.

Pru Life UK also advocates financial literacy for children aged 7 to 12 through its Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids program.

Established in 1996, Pru Life UK is a subsidiary of British financial services giant Prudential plc. Pru Life UK is the pioneer and current market leader of unit-linked or investment-linked life insurance products, and is one of the first life insurance companies approved to market US dollar-denominated unit-linked policies in the country. Pru Life UK is a life insurance company and is not engaged in the business of selling pre-need plans.

Prudential plc is a United Kingdom-registered company. Its regional headquarters, Prudential Corporation Asia, is based in Hong Kong.
