Pru Life UK continues to support public schools through Brigada Eskwela 2014

Days before the start of classes for school year 2014-2015, British life insurer Pru Life UK activated employee volunteers to support the Department of Education’s (DepEd) National School Maintenance Week, otherwise known as Brigada Eskwela, for the third straight year. The program brings together public schools, local governments, parents, students and various private organizations to participate in the clean-up and repair of educational facilities in preparation for the school year. This year, DepEd highlighted disaster preparedness in grooming schools for the upcoming academic year.

Pru Life UK’s support for the program  included donating cleaning supplies and sending employee volunteers who were deployed to several public schools in the National Capital Region (NCR) - Pitogo Elementary School in Makati City, Pedro P. Cruz Elementary School in Mandaluyong City, and Upper Bicutan Elementary School in Taguig City. All schools are partners for the Cha-Ching Financial Literacy for the Youth Program, Pru Life UK’s flagship corporate social responsibility program that teaches children basic money management skills. Cha-Ching is currently integrated in the Grades 2 and 3 curricula of 19 public school partners.

Educational materials and Cha-Ching workbooks were also provided to the two Cha-Ching pilot schools, Upper Bicutan Elementary School (UBES) and Tagaytay City Central School (TCCS). Five Android tablets were given to TCCS to contribute to the school’s ongoing upgrading of Information and Communication Technology equipment. A set of disaster preparedness educational materials were turned over to UBES in keeping with the 2014 thrust of Brigada Eskwela. All collaterals are part of the Safe Steps program, a groundbreaking pan-Asian public service initiative aimed at providing people with key educational messages on how to prepare for natural disasters. The Safe Steps public service announcements were developed in partnership with Prudence Foundation, the unified charitable arm of Pru Life UK regional headquarters Prudential Corporation Asia, and the National Geographic Channel. International boxing champion and humanitarian Mr. Manny Pacquiao is the Safe Steps ambassador.
