British insurer Pru Life UK was conferred a Gold Quill for its landmark Cha-Ching Financial Literacy for the Youth Program by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) on June 9 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel in Canada.

Cha-Ching received an Award of Merit in the Communication Management Division, Corporate Social Responsibility Category. Cha-Ching is Pru Life UK’s flagship corporate social responsibility program that aims to teach smart money management to children seven to 12 years old.

The Philippines became the first country to integrate Cha-Ching in the grade school curriculum following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Education (DepEd) in April 2012 for the integration of the Cha-Ching Financial Literacy for the Youth Program in the Grade 2 curriculum. To date, the continuing program has expanded its coverage to a total of 40 partner schools - 19 public schools in the National Capital Region, Northern and Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and 21 partner private educational institutions.

The first multi-country, multi-platform financial literacy program in Asia, Cha-Ching introduces four money smarts – Earn, Save, Spend and Donate – through an animated cartoon program developed in partnership with children’s education specialist Dr. Alice Wilder and aired in leading children’s channel Cartoon Network in seven Asian markets including the Philippines. The multi-platform drive also features an interactive website, mobile apps, parent activities and school contact programs.

The Gold Quill is the premier award for business communication excellence conferred by the IABC, a global network of communication professionals that aims to advance organizational effectiveness through strategic communication.
