To welcome the new academic year, British life insurer Pru Life UK continues the series of teachers’ training for its Cha-Ching Financial Literacy for the Youth Program with its partner private schools, Makati Hope Christian School in Makati and Mary Help of Christians School in Calamba.

These comprehensive sessions on financial literacy aim to prepare the teachers in conducting Cha-Ching lessons for grades 2 and 3 this school year 2015-2016.

Makati Hope Christian School has been implementing Cha-Ching for three years and has been one of the first private schools to partner with Pru Life UK, while Mary Help of Christians School is the latest addition to the growing roster of partner educational institutions. This will be the school’s first year to incorporate Cha-Ching lessons in its syllabus.

Cha-Ching is the first multi-country, multi-platform program that aims to help parents in Asia build money-smart values for children aged seven to 12 through introducing four money smarts – earn, save, spend, and donate. It was launched in Hong Kong in 2011 by Prudential Corporation Asia, the regional headquarters of Pru Life UK.

The Philippines became the first country to integrate Cha-Ching in the grade school curriculum following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Education (DepEd) in April 2012 for the integration of the Cha-Ching Financial Literacy for the Youth Program in the curriculum of public elementary schools.

Piloting in Upper Bicutan Elementary School in the National Capital Region (NCR) and Tagaytay Central School in the Southern Tagalog Region for academic year 2012-2013 through DepEd’s Adopt-A-School program, the implementation has expanded its coverage to a total of 30 public schools in NCR, Northern and Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao for academic year 2014-2015. Cha-Ching is likewise concurrently being integrated in the syllabi of 25 partner private educational institutions.
