PRURide PH 2019 Hosts UCI 2.2 Stage Race In May

PRURide PH is set to host its 2nd leg this May following its accreditation by Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).

PRUride PH—the country’s largest annual cycling festival hosted by British life insurance company Pru Life UK—is set to be even bigger this year following its accreditation by Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the world’s governing body for cycling, as a UCI 2.2 event. This will allow professional Filipino riders and foreign international teams to collect UCI points to qualify for entry into the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

To be held on May 24 to 26 in Subic, the UCI 2.2 Stage Race will kick off at Harbor Point, Subic and will see professional cycling teams compete for individual, team and stage honors to earn UCI points. The three-stage race will take the riders onto different roads around Bataan and up to the peak of the historic Mt. Samat.

Aspiring racers can experience the same adrenaline rush professionals go through by joining the Masters Race, which will take place on May 26, while those looking to participate in a non-competitive ride can join the Gran Fondo, which offer 30-, 60- or 100-kilometer options.

PRURide PH 2019 will also feature a Virtual Race, which uses state-of-the-art technology to simulate a high-speed track cycling virtual game. Participants with the best recorded times in the elimination rounds during several mall tours will compete at the grand finals on May 26 in Subic and can stand a chance to win a limited-edition carbon fiber road bike.

In addition, riders looking for high-speed circuit action can take part in the Criterium, to be held on April 7 at Filinvest, Alabang. Cyclists of all levels can enjoy the thrill and excitement in different race categories, such as fixed gear, road bike, mountain bike, folding bike races, and more.

The tempo of the two-weekend cycling festival will be raised even further with the participation of PRURide PH ambassadors and celebrities Zoren Legaspi, Kim Atienza, and Gretchen Ho.

Now in its third year, PRURide PH 2019 is expected to attract more than 2,500 riders from across Asia. Aside from the 18 categories, friends, families and spectators can enjoy various fun activities such as Zumba sessions, an inflatable playground, massage and health check stations, face paint booths, and mini-concerts, among many others.

Allan Tumbaga, Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Marketing Officer, said, “PRURide PH 2019 supports our new brand campaign ‘We DO’, which focuses on health, wealth, and innovation. In addition to making this year’s PRURide PH a UCI-accredited event, we are also offering beginners-friendly and families-inclusive activities to provide an unparalleled experience for people from all walks of life. Through this cycling festival, we are reinforcing our commitment to inspiring and promoting healthy and active lifestyles across the country.”

Register now at PRURide.ph to take part in the flagship event. All participants will receive a PRURide PH 2019 jersey and all finishers will take home a medal. Adding on to the excitement, cash prizes of up to PHP2million will be up for grabs.
