For many people, a job is often seen as a means to earn a living. A source of income, numbers on a payslip, and a way to sustain daily life.
But for Maribel Cabal, her work became something far greater: a path to rediscover purpose, rebuild her family’s future, and redefine what success truly means.
This year, Cabal marks her 20th anniversary with Pru Life UK. That means two decades of service, growth, and meaningful impact.
Before joining the company, life had already taken her through many chapters. She previously worked as an administrative officer at the U.S. Naval Station Branch Clinic in Subic Bay and later at the U.S. Navy Support Facility in Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory. She also ventured into entrepreneurship through her own cross-stitch business.
But life changed course when her husband’s health declined, forcing him to return home after working overseas. With her family facing uncertainty, Cabal knew she needed to step forward and find a new way to provide.
It was during this season that a friend encouraged her to become an insurance agent.
At first, she hesitated. “Hindi ko nakikita ang sarili ko bilang insurance agent,” she recalled.
Coming from a completely different professional background, the role felt unfamiliar. But as someone determined to secure a better future for her family, Cabal didn’t close this opportunity.
When she was invited to visit a Pru Life UK branch to bring her special fresh lumpia, she was still hesitant. But coming out of the Branch Manager’s office, something immediately stood out. “Nakita ko silang nagtatawanan, parang ang saya-saya nila,” she shared. She remembered how the people in the office looked genuinely happy, as if work did not feel like work at all. “Gusto ko rin nun,” she said. Also remembering how she was that happy in her first two jobs. That scene changed her perspective, “I could be one of them” she thought. Now there was no hesitation, her NO became a YES. Coincidentally, one of those people in the office is now her Branch Manager.
That first impression would later shape the next 20 years of her life.
Today, Cabal is one of the company’s successful Unit Managers, helping provide protection and financial guidance to Filipino families. Through her career, she was also able to send her children to school and support their future. Today, her children are both successful in their chosen careers.
When asked what made her stay with the company for two decades, Cabal pointed to two things: flexibility and care.
She shared that her role allowed her to work while still making time for her family. For her, success was never just about earning, it was about being present for the people who mattered most.
She also noted that Pru Life UK’s culture of recognition, support, and rewarding hard work played a major role in her journey. Through monthly awards and growth opportunities, employees are encouraged to thrive both personally and professionally.
For Cabal, however, achievements and incentives are only part of the story. At the heart of her work is something deeper: helping Filipino families feel secure during life’s most difficult moments. More than the compensation, she said, what matters most is being able to serve others with sincerity and care.
When asked about the legacy she hopes to leave behind, Cabal answered with emotion.
“I want to be remembered as the agent who truly cares, hindi lang ako nagbebenta And the agent who built long-lasting relationships.” I found and made friends in this career and I am not only honored but also thankful, grateful and blessed for being a Pru Life UK insurance agent.
Her words reflect a truth often forgotten in the modern workplace: the most meaningful careers are not always measured by titles or income, but by the lives touched along the way.
In a time when many see work only as a necessity, Cabal’s story shows that a career can also be a calling.
Through opportunities grounded in purpose, growth, and people-first values, Pru Life UK continues to prove that work-life balance is possible and that meaningful work can change lives, not only for employees, but for the families they serve.
