The fight against dengue starts at home
Ang dengue ay isa sa mga pinakamalaking public health challenges sa mga maiinit na bansa tulad ng Pilipinas. Every year, around 96 million people are diagnosed with clinical dengue all over the world. Mahal ang magkasakit and while most people recover from this illness without complications, some cases lead to death, plus the unexpected expenses can be painful.
Unfortunately, there is no clinically proven cure for dengue yet, but this disease can be prevented through proper sanitation and precautionary measures. Here are some ways to avoid dengue at home:
-
Keep your house tidy and clean. Kailangan maging masinop sa bahay. Avoid leaving junk inside the house which can lead to mosquitoes and their eggs nestling in old tires or storage containers. Stagnant water can lead to dengue infections because mosquitos tend to lay eggs in them.
-
Use mosquito repellants. Apply it especially on skin not covered by clothing. This is especially important during rainy season when dengue is most prevalent. There are also anti-mosquito stickers you should try for your little ones. Puwede ring gumamit ng mga Mosquito coils pang dagdag proteksyon.
-
Get rid of mosquitos when you see them. Have a fly swatter or an insecticide spray near outdoor areas. Siguraduhin na hindi abot ng mga bata ang insecticide para sa kanilang safety.
-
Invest in a mosquito net, also known as a kulambo. Protect yourself from mosquito and insect bites when you sleep by covering your sleeping area with a mosquito net. Make sure there are no holes and that it’s properly sealed for maximum protection.
-
Wear light long-sleeved shirts and long pants if needed. If there’s a dengue outbreak in your area, make it a habit to wear protective clothing especially when you are outside the house. Covering up can help prevent mosquito bites.
Following these simple tips can help spare you and those you love from the danger of dengue. Ang malinis na bahay ay hindi lang panangga sa dengue, kung hindi pati sa marami pang mga sakit.
