Free game challenges children’s money and music know-how to become Asia’s next digital rock star

Prudential Corporation Asia (PCA), Hong Kong based regional headquarters of British insurer Pru Life UK, has released its newest mobile game, Cha-Ching Band Manager, for iOS and Android in English to help children build money-smart skills. Cha-Ching is a key financial literacy programme of the Prudence Foundation, the charitable platform of PCA. Riding on the popularity of the Cha-Ching Saver game series, Cha-Ching Band Manager blends elements from the popular music-based and simulation games that children love to create a fun and interactive game that enables them to make smart money decisions through play.

Jam to Cha-Ching’s Greatest Hits and Player-created Singles

The Cha-Ching band needs the help of musically-savvy children to take them to new heights of stardom. Players will get to rock out to the band’s popular hits by tapping in time with the music and the coloured balls that travel down the screen. When the band plays well, players will earn more to work their way up the showbiz ladder.

But, players will not just be grooving to Cha-Ching’s beats. Inside the band’s studio, they will get access to a range of instruments and soundtracks to allow them to create their very own songs. They will then get to perform their original tracks for fans in different venues across town, share their creations with other players around the region and have the chance to perform other band’s songs to see how they compare.

Money-smart Skills to Take Cha-Ching to Global Mega-Stardom

Cha-Ching’s success is not only determined by their music. The game puts control of their destiny in the band manager’s hands. Has the band played enough gigs to earn sufficient fame points to unlock the bigger and better venues in town? Should Cha-Ching’s game coins be spent on instrument upgrades and song samples from the music store or power-ups in the training facility? Perhaps the money should be left in the bank for an extra day to earn interest? Money-smart decisions and forward planning have never been more critical to Cha-Ching’s progress!

Building Financial Know-how Among Children in Asia

Cha-Ching Band Manager is the PCA’s latest effort in its commitment to financial literacy in Asia. The programme, a key initiative of the Prudence Foundation, was launched in an effort to address one of the key takeaways from the global financial crisis: consumers’ need for stronger financial literacy. And with the rising affluence in Asia, healthy financial habits are even more crucial for families in the region.

“We are delighted to have the chance to offer kids, parents and educators in Asia another tool to help build sound money skills from an early age. Cha-Ching Band Manager, along with our other digital games, leverages the concept that children learn through play and gives them a fun and engaging way to practise making money-smart decisions,” said Sean Rach, PCA Regional Director of Brand & Corporate Affairs. Cha-Ching is a musical edutainment cartoon series that currently airs in seven Asian markets – Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. The first multi-country, multi-platform financial literacy for the youth initiative, Cha-Ching was developed in partnership with leading children’s channel Cartoon Network and internationally-renowned children’s education expert Dr. Alice Wilder.

In the Philippines, two programs have been launched in 2012 – the Cha-Ching Money Smart Kids that incorporates Cha-Ching money smart lessons in the Math and Values Education syllabi of grade 2 classes of partner schools; and the Cha-Ching World Tour that provides direct and supervised exposure to Cha-Ching through games and activities that teach the core concepts of the program.

The Philippines became the first country to integrate Cha-Ching in the grade school curriculum when the Department of Education (DepEd) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Pru Life UK in April to implement the program in the 2012-2013 grade 2 curriculum of two pilot schools, Tagaytay Central School and Upper Bicutan Elementary School.

Following the partnership with DepEd, the Cha-Ching Financial Literacy for the Youth Program is also being implemented in the grade 2 curricula of eight private schools – Xavier School in San Juan City; Makati Hope Christian School in Makati City; Montessori Integrated School in Antipolo City; and Hope Christian High School in Manila; Southville International School and Colleges in Las Piñas City, King’s Montessori School in Novaliches; College of the Immaculate Conception in Cabanatuan City and St. Paul College Foundation, Inc. in Cebu are likewise slated to begin the integration of Cha-Ching lessons in their syllabi.
