British life insurer Pru Life UK recently received a certificate of recognition from the Department of Education (DepEd) to acknowledge the Company’s support in helping rebuild communities and support recovery of schoolchildren in areas in Mindanao hardest hit by typhoon Pablo (international name: Bopha). Under the auspices of Prudence Foundation, Pru Life UK and regional headquarters Prudential Corporation Asia (PCA) worked with international non-government organizations Plan International and Save the Children to provide household kits and school kits for children. At least 18,430 families in Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental and Agusan del Sur benefited from the initiative.

DepEd and Pru Life UK have been in partnership since April 2012 in integrating the Cha-Ching Financial Literacy for the Youth Program in the Grade 2 curriculum. Cha-Ching is a multi-country, multi-platform financial literacy program utilizing animation and music among other multimedia tools to teach kids the four money smarts of Earn, Save, Spend and Donate. The Cha-Ching program is currently being implemented in two pilot public schools – Upper Bicutan Elementary School in Taguig City and Tagaytay Central School in Tagaytay City – in partnership with DepEd’s Adopt-a-School program. Following the success of its pilot run, DepEd and Pru Life UK are preparing to roll out the Cha-Ching program to 17 more schools in key areas in Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao this year.
